City of Emily, News Release
Emily Recycling Guidelines
The City of Emily is pleased to announce an enhanced recycling program, serving the City and available to the surrounding communities. The City has selected Waste Management as the provider of this service. The recycling center will be located between the Cities Maintenance garage and winter road material storage site on County Road 1. The facility will be open on a 24/7 basis and will eventually be illuminated for night drop-offs. The recycling bins will be located on a concrete pad, with asphalt on two sides. All recycling bins should be in place by April 7, 2008.
This will be a single sort recycling site, meaning all goods for recycling can be deposited in the same recycling bin. Depending on an individual home owner’s choice, this could also reduce the number of home recycling bins to one.
Materials which can be recycled include aluminum cans, tin cans, glass food containers, and plastic containers with an E #1 or #2 imprinted in the triangle on the bottom of plastic container. As a general rule, plastic containers with a neck and screw lid are recyclable.
Also included for recycling are newspapers, junk mail, white paper, magazines, catalogs, shredded paper, phone books, corrugated cardboard, cardboard cereal, cracker, cake mix boxes with food liner removed, and other similar cardboard boxes.
Home preparation of recycled goods includes removing of caps or lids, and rinsing of all food residues from cans, bottles and jars. Labels do not need to be removed. All containers, such as plastic jugs and tin cans, need to be flattened. Corrugated cardboard and all other types of boxes also need to be flattened. Flattened materials maximize the recycling dumpster space and minimize the recycling costs.
